History
Founded on Oct. 13, 1885, the Georgia School of Technology opened its doors in October 1888 to 84 students. The School’s creation signaled the beginning of the transformation of the agrarian South to an industrial economy.During its first 50 years, Tech grew from a narrowly focused trade school to a regionally recognized technological university.
Education
Georgia Tech’s mission is to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. Its mission and strategic plan are focused on making a positive impact in the lives of people everywhere. Majors and degrees are offered through the colleges of Design, Computing, Engineering, Sciences, the Scheller College of Business, and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
Research
Today’s innovations often take place at the intersection of disciplines. Georgia Tech's research enterprise encourages the kinds of multidisciplinary collaboration that makes these advances possible.
We've broken down the barriers between our schools, colleges, and interdisciplinary research organizations to provide federal agencies, companies, state government, and private organizations the results they expect from research investments.
