Brigham Young University seeks to develop students of faith, intellect and character who have the skills and the desire to continue learning and to serve others throughout their lives. Established in 1875, the university provides an outstanding education in an atmosphere consistent with the ideals and principles of its sponsor, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

History

The original school, Brigham Young Academy, was established Oct. 16, 1875, on a little over one acre of land in what is now downtown Provo. In 1903, the name was officially changed to Brigham Young University. The university's academic development was signified by the inauguration of the school's first doctoral program in 1957.

Housing services

The university offers both single and married student housing on campus at very reasonable rates.  For more information about on campus housing, please visit the On-Campus Housing website. Please note that housing options are dependent upon what is available on any given room selection date.

BYU has also contracted with nearby landlords and complexes to provide approved off-campus housing. Brigham Young University desires an environment for its single students living on and off campus that is conducive to their moral and spiritual growth as well as their academic performance. 

Library services

There are several libraries located on campus that provide informational resources and services that support educational pursuits, promote information discovery, advance scholarship, nurture lifelong intellectual and spiritual growth utilizing cutting edge technology located in tranquil settings within easy walking distances.

Medical services

Brigham Young University requires all international students to have health insurance coverage while attending the university.The university also has its own Student Health Center which is located conveniently on campus and helps to deliver first rate physician and urgent care to all of its students.

Sports facilities

In addition to maintaining various Division 1 NCAA athletic teams, BYU provides opportunities to its students to play various scheduled sports including Soccer, Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Frisbee etc as part of its intramural sporting program.This program strives to help students demonstrate the aspects of athletics that promote wholesome attitudes in participants and spectators; to enhance positive relationships and to ensure that high moral standards are always reflected in the conduct of all students who participate in intramural sports.

Student clubs

BYU provides for more than 100 different student clubs throughout campus that are able to meet the diverse interests of all students ranging from athletic or recreation to academic to cultural and fine arts etc.  The student clubs represent an outlet from the daily rigors of academic pursuits and an opportunity to become part of the university family.

Brigham Young University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
