Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

Within the impressive architecture of its buildings the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna offers much more than a historical university environment and an unforgettable atmosphere. From gala dinners to business presentations, from readings to musical and dance performances, the Academy provides an exclusive setting for a wide range of events and festive occasions.

History

    • 1688 Peter Strudel, court and chamber painter to Emperor Leopold I, opened a private academy.

    • 1692 Earliest mention of the Academy's official recognition by the Emperor - it is thus the oldest art academy in Central Europe. Lessons were held in Peter Strudel's private residence near Währinger Straße.

    • 1714 When Peter Strudel died, the Academy was temporarily closed down.

Research

The research service at the Art | Research office advises and supports colleagues who wish to realize project ideas in the areas of scientific and artistic-scientific research, but also in that of artistic practice.
