History
As a rapidly growing centre of industry and innovation in the eastern Greater Toronto Area, throughout the 1980s and early 1990s leaders in Durham Region cherished the dream of establishing its own university. At the time, the number of residents in Durham Region was projected to approach nearly one million by 2021.
Education

Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.

Our South Village Residence offers accommodation at a special rate to graduates and their visitors. The residence is located at 32 Commencement Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. Accommodations feature:

Medical services
Ontario Tech University has a vital interest in the health and safety of its employees, students, visitors and contractors. The prevention of occupational illness or injury is a major continuing objective and the university will make every reasonable effort to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work and learning environment.
Campus life
As one of Canada's youngest and most dynamic universities, UOIT is rapidly growing in reputation and in enrolment at the undergraduate and graduate levels. To address that growth and ensure our students continue to have access to an outstanding learning environment, UOIT established a downtown Oshawa location and has added new classrooms, labs, study areas and state-of-the-art learning facilities at the north Oshawa location.
Sports facilities
The campus community’s impressive list of leading-edge athletics facilities grew this fall with the opening of the Campus Fieldhouse, a multi-sport turf centre. The transformed facility (formerly the Campus Tennis Centre), features two playing fields that can accommodate a variety of intramural sports and activities including soccer, field lacrosse, ultimate, flag football and bubble soccer, among others.
Student clubs
At Ontario Tech, students are represented by the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU). The Student Union is an organization on campus that is dedicated to the enhancement of the student experience. Its mission is carried out by both full-time staff and elected student representatives who support the student experience through:
- Academic and hobby-based clubs and societies where students can come together to develop leadership skills.
- Celebrating your achievements with grad photos.
- Attending university defining campus life events such as O-Week and the Fall Fair.
