History
NIU was one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Taiwan. It was founded in 1926 as Taiwan Provincial Ilan School of Agriculture and Forestry. Following the rapid economic development and industrialization in Taiwan, the school has undertaken transformation in accordance with the changing social and political environment.
Education
NIU comprises College of Humanities and Management, College of Engineering, Collegeof Bioresources, and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Our university is one of the most reputed Bioresources education and research institute inTaiwan. Students of the Bioresources domain have opportunity to visit Malaysia for off-site classes; to Canada for attending the joint program with University of BritishColumbia (UBC). NIU has a strong international collaboration, with over 90 Universities and ResearchInstituion world wide. Studying at NIU, students can apply for academic exchange program, they can take part in overseas volunteer activities and summer camps.

About our Dormitories
- Male Dormitory, providing 788 beds.
- Female Dormitory, providing 740 beds.
- Every room is equipped with 4 beds (2 Bunk Beds). Furniture for every student includes a desk with drawers, a lamp, a bookshelf, a wardrobe and a bed.

Library services
NIU Library is a 7 floors building with 973 reading seats, and over 710,000 Collective Books.There are specially designed reading space of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.There are inspirational whiteboards at the entrance available freely for readers to write on. "The book of the themes area" provides the special collections of Ilan University.
ICT services
We provide students free email services and free cloud drive. All student dorms havewired internet connections. Internet Access Fee is NT$150 per semester.

We Have Section of Health Hygiene for:

Campus life
NIU comprises four colleges (College of Humanities and Management, College of Engineering, College of Bioresources, and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and 15 departments as well as 17 graduate institutes. NIU educates students to meet the needs of national development, social progress, industrial prosperity, and economic growth. Currently the university has 4,400 undergraduates and 480 postgraduates, a teaching staff of about 235, and over 40,000 alumni. NIU is a reputed educational institution in northeastern Taiwan. The main campus is located in Yilan City, about 50 minutes from Taipei by car. In addition to an experimental forest in the suburb Yilan, NIU has acquired a 27.8-hectare site nearby Wujie.
Sports facilities
NIU has a 6-Floors Gym, offers various facilities including indoor run track, basketball court,table tennis, pool, golf greens, volleyball court, badminton court, and weight training equipment.

NIU has more than 90 extra curriculum clubs. International students are welcome to join. NIU also takes care of International Students in many ways:

- College of Engineering and College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of NIU are IEET accredited. IEET is a member of Washington Accord, Seoul Accord,Sydney Accord, and NABEEA. Being an IEET certificated institution, the degrees issued by these NIU departments are recognized in many countries, like USA, Canada, UK,Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia.
