History

Centrale Nantes celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. Here are some of the key dates in its foundation and development over the last century. The transformation in 1991 to Ecole Centrale de Nantes reflected a broadening of the curriculum - the school today trains versatile engineers equipped with a strong scientific and technical culture.

Education

Centrale Nantes has a mindset and a mode of operation oriented towards exploration, entrepreneurial spirit and practical application, from theory to the design of solutions adapted to economic challenges and industrial players. Our programmes prompt students to reflect on the major societal challenges of the 21st century. Among these, the three major growth and innovation challenges of energy transition, manufacturing and healthcare emerge and structure the curriculum.

Research

Hotbeds of innovation and open-mindedness, the 6 research laboratories of the school and its 500+ researchers provide strong links with the local and international industrial fabric. They enjoy a reputation for excellence in the world, particularly in naval hydrodynamic, civil engineering, composite materials, robotics and big data analysis. 12 industrial chairs were created and more than 100 contracts are processed annually, in accordance with public bodies, large groups and small to medium sized businesses.

Student services

The Student Affairs Office supports the Academic Affairs Department. It deals with the administrative educational matters for the entire student body, from enrolment to graduation. 

The International Relations Department is here to welcome students to Centrale Nantes and help with all the administrative aspects on arrival.

Housing services

Each year Centrale Nantes signs a cooperation agreement with "CROUS" (French national organization) to book accommodations in university residences near the campus.Through this agreement, the International Relations Department proposes international students accommodation in five CROUS residences which offer independent rooms from 9m2 to 20m2. Depending on the residence, there can be shared or independent toilets, bathrooms and kitchens. The monthly cost is different depending on the comfort you choose.

Library services

The Centrale Nantes Multimedia Library strives to provide students, teachers, researchers, research engineers and doctoral students with the documentary resources that meet their needs.

It is part of the network with the university library of Nantes.

ICT services

The Ecole Centrale wireless network: WIFI-ECN

  • Access is via a captive web portal on which you authenticate with your username ("login") and your password. 
  • The services offered are: basic Internet services; mobile services for students: messaging, web application (pedagogy, intranet ...) as well as your personal storage space on the teaching platform.

Medical services

Medicals, vaccinations, minor ailments ... the school nurse is on hand and will be your main contact point for preventative medecine and first aid.

Campus life

All the Centrale Nantes buldings are located in the Campus North of Nantes. Downtown is located 10 min away by tramway.

Students, staff, teachers - for a coffee break, lunch or an event, the cafeteria space of Building E is versatile and open to everyone. Microwaves are available to heat up your food. 

Outside the campus few restaurants are available and a university restaurant.

Sports facilities

  • from the beginner to the experienced player, regular training sessions with expert supervision,
  • a student team that supports event organisation, coaching, refereeing and budget management,
  • participation in numerous inter-school sports events: Intercentrales, Lyon challenge, Supélec challenge, Telecom Brest challenge etc
  • regular participation in major national and international sailing and rowing events - revealing high-level athletes every year. 

Student clubs

A very lively and dynamic associative activity, thanks to student commitment and the active support of the school.

  • More than 80 clubs and associations
  • Various activities all year round: robotics club, film club, poker, cookery, Zik, ski week, participation in 4L trophy etc
  • Events of regional or national scope: Créadanse, Inkjet Competition, Nemo Challenge, international week etc
Students can find an activity that allows them to express their talents, to develop their organization, project management, and communication skills. A great experience on a personal level, but also a first step towards professional skills.
