History

  • Created in 1957 by philosopher Gaston Berger and Rector Jean Capelle, INSA Lyon is the oldest and largest of the six schools making up the INSA Group.
  • INSA engineers lead careers built around a logic of high adaptability, a pioneering approach to science and technology, and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Education

INSA Lyon is a leader in science education, as well as a pioneer in terms of its policies concerning accessibility and diversity. INSA Lyon stands out from the crowd. For example, it is one of the few engineering schools that houses a High Level Sports Section (SSHN) recognised by the Ministry for Sport.

Research

With its 23 laboratories, INSA Lyon applies a multi disciplinary scientific policy aimed at excellence in partnership with three other science oriented higher education establishments of the Lyon region (Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Ecole Normale Supérieure-Sciences, Université Claude Bernard-Lyon 1, Université Lumière Lyon 2, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3,  Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne).

Student services

The Student Counselling and Support Service offers a warm welcome with personal advice and support by psychologists for all students throughout their education at INSA Lyon, with the aim of helping them succeed. Individual counselling sessions can be on a regular or as-needed basis depending on the students' preferences, and take place in an understanding, non-judgemental and strictly confidential setting.

Housing services

Accommodation: 11 halls of residence (3,200 places). 

Campus: one on the LyonTech-La Doua campus in Villeurbanne and the other in Oyonnax, at the heart of the Plastics Vallée.

Medical services

The Student Health Centre provides medical care, counselling, support and prevention for students who have or develop health problems of any kind whatsoever (physiological or psychological, temporary or permanent disability).

Campus life

On the edge of the Lyon-Villeurbanne conurbation, in an area that is rich in open spaces (Tête d'Or park, Feyssine pedestrian area), with an international outlook (International Residence, Interpol Head Quarters), the LyonTech campus (la Doua) benefits from a dense network of communication routes.

Sports facilities

130 clubs and societies with some 3,000 student members and offering sports, leisure, cultural and humanitarian activities, to name but a few.

Student clubs

INSA Lyon has a tradition of a particularly rich association life on campus LyonTech-La Doua and Oyonnax. Close to a hundred student associations and clubs have been recorded. The establishment offers them direct support providing sixty or so associations with premises, with a total area reserved for association life of about 3,500 m2, including the Student Centre, the departments and the residences.
