College of William & Mary

History

William & Mary is the second-oldest institution of higher learning in America. On February 8, 1693, King William III and Queen Mary II of England signed the charter for a "perpetual College of Divinity, Philosophy, Languages, and other good Arts and Sciences" to be founded in the Virginia Colony. And William & Mary was born.

Education

Building on more than 300 years of innovation and excellence, William & Mary transcends the boundaries between research and teaching, teaching and learning, learning and living.

Research

Our research culture places an emphasis on quality, selectivity and innovation. Our size fosters both collaboration and efficiency. We're big enough to contribute effectively to many of the solutions of problems at national and global levels, yet small enough to keep overhead costs from ballooning.

Career

William & Mary and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) are vibrant, innovative and engaged communities and we are delighted about your interest in a career with us. We accept applications for positions using the Employment Opportunities online system (paper applications cannot be accepted).

Student services

The Office of Community Engagement connects the College and community to support students’ development as active and educated citizens and to promote positive, community-driven social change.  Our vision is that students will prioritize working within and understanding community in a lifelong pursuit of social justice.

Housing services

New undergraduate international students staying on campus will be able to move into the Residence Halls at the start of International Orientation (August 18, 2020), but not earlier. If you need a place to stay before you can move-in, please see short-term housing options.

You must be on campus for final exams at the end of each semester. Exams cannot be rescheduled for flights. W&M undergraduate Residence Halls close after exams. International students living in the dorms and continuing their studies at W&M in the spring are eligible to apply for winter break housing at no extra cost.

Library services

William & Mary’s extensive library system is the collective brain of the university. Within its million–plus books and hundreds of thousands of periodicals, journals and electronic databases, you can find the sum total of human knowledge. It’s like the Internet, without all of the made up stuff.

ICT services

William & Mary IT is a service-based organization, first and foremost. Whether you're a student, faculty member, or an administrator, that means we'll always be ready with creative solutions for all your technology needs.

Campus life

Campus life at William & Mary is as varied and engaging as the remarkable students who go here. We're athletes, artists, activists, hikers, singers, researchers and adventurers, and W&M knows how to make us happy.

Sports facilities

Athletics are a source of pride at William & Mary. We're winning conference titles, and graduating scholar athletes at a rate higher than any other public university in the country. Across the university, an impressive 85 percent of undergraduates participate in some athletic or recreation program. Besides our 23 Division I varsity sports teams, W&M has a thriving sport club and intramural scene, a multi-million dollar student recreation center and a ton of opportunities for outdoor adventure.

Student clubs

With more than 450 campus clubs and organizations to choose from, staying active and engaged at W&M isn't an afterthought; it’s a way of life. The astounding number of student clubs and organizations at W&M is a reflection of the broad diversity of thought, experience and background of our students, and an opportunity to explore leadership and community engagement in a supportive environment. There are over two hundred special interest clubs inspired by political engagement, religious faith, ethnic and cultural pride, environmental protection and endless geekery from quiz bowl to ping pong to heavy metal.

William & Mary is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's, post-master's certificate, doctoral and first professional degrees.
