Konkuk University

History

The history of Konkuk University (KU) dates back to 1931 when the People's Hospital was founded. The establishment of the Chosun Political Science School followed in 1946, which was later renamed Konkuk University.

Education

Konkuk offers extensive courses in English, and international students also have many opportunities to learn Korean culture and language by mingling with their Konkuk classmates. Hence, a diverse group of international students study at Konkuk every semester. In the spring semester of 2016, more than 1,000 undergraduate students were pursuing their undergraduate degrees at Konkuk. There were an additional 251 participants in Konkuk’s exchange and visiting student programs during the same period. Approximately 100 students also come to Konkuk for short-term summer programs.

Research

Konkuk University (KU) officially launched the Research and University-Industry Cooperation Foundation in 2005 in order to conduct tasks concerning new knowledge and technologies that reinforce the nation's future and competitiveness. The specific responsibilities of the Research and University-Industry Cooperation Foundation include the promotion of joint cooperation among industries, research institutes, and the University, as well as the provision of research support.

Housing services

KU:L House is Konkuk University's (KU) modern, on-campus residence which opened in August 2006. Open to foreign and domestic students studying at Konkuk, the dormitory is divided into four halls: Vision Hall, Frontier Hall, Dream Hall, and Lake Hall. KU:L House can accommodate more students than any other university housing facility in Seoul, as its four halls can accommodate up to 3,000 students. Male and female students live in separate halls. (Dream and Frontier Halls for females; Vision and Lake Halls for males)

Library services

Sanghuh Memorial Library was opened in 1989 to commemorate Konkuk University’s (KU) 43rd anniversary. The library has space for more than one million volumes and a total capacity of 3,300 seats. Most materials are on open shelves, directly available to faculty and students. The library has fully automated systems for searching the library catalogs and checking materials in and out.

Medical services

The Student Life Team at Konkuk University (KU) operates the Health Center (on-campus clinic) to assist with the healthy campus life of Konkuk students, faculty, and staff. A nurse is present during opening hours to provide health counseling, general pharmaceuticals, and aid for injuries or accidents that occurred during class, practical training, or events on Konkuk campus.

Campus life

KU's main campus is located in the southeastern part of Seoul near the Han River. The university is easily accessible from Incheon International Airport and downtown Seoul by public transportation.

Konkuk University (KU) provides several options to Konkuk students, faculty, and staff to choose from for their sports and fitness needs.

Student clubs

Konkuk University (KU) has nearly 70 student clubs, encompassing diverse areas of students' interest. Participating in these clubs as a foreign student may enrich your campus experience by meeting Korean and other international friends and engaging in various activities focused on a particular area. If you would like to join a club, visit the club offices in Student Union Buildings A and B, or visit the Student Club Association in Room 218 in Student Union Building B. (See Campus Map.)

All our programs are fully accredited by the Korean Ministry of Education and other external organizations such as the Accreditation Board for Engineering in Korea (ABEEK).
