South China Agricultural University

For more than a hundred years, South China Agricultural University has developed into a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive university comprised of the disciplines of agriculture, engineering, liberal arts, basic sciences, economics, management, law, education, history and philosophy. It has always been contributing itself to the development of agriculture and society.

SCAU has set two central tasks: teaching and research. As an advanced multi-disciplinary agricultural institute with distinctive tropical and subtropical characteristics, SCAU intends to provide its students with an all-round education that contributes to their future professional success. At SCAU, graduate programs and post-graduate programs are developing concurrently. It has a faculty that is capable of top-level and large-scale research. SCAU has been conducting agricultural research on basic theory as well as applied projects. It will bravely face the future challenges.

Our aim is to provide the best educational experience for each and every one of our students. Our campus is changing to meet 21st-century educational needs. New buildings for Horticultural, Agricultural Economics and Management, Biology, Natural Resources and Environment, Agronomy are the latest additions. We are grateful to the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Provincial Government and our friends for helping us provide the best facilities for the highest quality educational and research programs possible.

SouthChinaAgriculturalUniversity is a “211 Project” university sponsored by both GuangdongProvince and the Ministry of Agriculture during the ninth and tenth “Five-year Plan”. The university is strong in its academic researches and well equipped with research facilities. Of the 160 research platforms, there are 5 key open laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture, 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 5 Guangdong Provincial key laboratories, 2 Engineering Research Centers of the Ministry of Education, and 2 Guangdong provincial key Research Bases for Humanities and Social Sciences. The NewPlantVarietyTestingCenter (Guangzhou branch) of the MOA, the Livestock and Poultry Products Supervision and TestingCenter (Guangzhou branch) of the MOA, the State Genetically Modified Crops Testing and SupervisionCenter (South China branch), GuangdongRuralAreaPolicyResearchCenter and Guangdong Timber and Wood Products Quality Supervision and TestingCenter are all stationed inside SCAU.

The research outputs of SCAU have been increasing steadily over the years. Since the tenth “Five-year Plan”, SCAU has won 114 research and technology awards at provincial/ministerial level or above, with 77 first or second prizes. The university has applied for 499 patents (412 patents for inventions), and has been granted 198 of them (123 for inventions). The university has also been granted 14 New Plant Variety Rights, accounting for 35% of the total number to be granted until 2020 for GuangdongProvince. 73 new plant and animal varieties by the university have passed required review precedures. Researchers and teachers of SCAU have published 10,243 academic papers, including 774 indexed by SCI.
