Marmara University

History

Marmara University is one of the oldest educational institutions in Turkey. Established on 16 January, 1883 under the name Hamidiye Ticaret Mekteb-i Âlisi, and affiliated with the Commercial, Agriculture, Forestry and Mining industry, Marmara University began its life in a house behind the Istanbul High School for Girls in Cagoglu.

Housing services

Özmen Aktar Dormitory for Female Students :

The dormitory serves 478 students. There are baths and toilets within the rooms. There is hot water available 24 hours a day. There are three study rooms, a TV-rest room, a snack bar, a laundry, a hairdressers, and a computer center with internet. There is a waiting room for guests and there is a phone on every floor from which the students can make phone calls.

Library services

The Department of Library and Documentation, which was established with Marmara University, fulfills the duty of “access to information”, which has a vital importance in the modern world, in the most rapid and accurate manner. Today, in addition to the Central Library there are a number of departmental libraries in different campuses serving the academic staff and students of Marmara University.

Medical services

The first place that our administrative and academic personnel, their spouses and children, and our students consult when they have medical problems is the medico-social service units. 

The medico-social services, part of the Health, Culture and Sports Department, offer laboratory, x-ray, dental, treatment and medical dressing, psychological support and guidance and dietician services.

Campus life

Marmara University carries out education on 14 campuses in Istanbul on both the Asian and European shores. The Acibadem, Anadoluhisari, Baglarbasi, Basibüyük, Göztepe, Haydarpasa, Kartal and Pendik campuses are on the Asian shore, while the Bahçelievler, Beyazit, Nisantasi, Sultanahmet, Sisli and Tarabya campuses are on the European shore.

Sports facilities

The Large Multi-Purpose Sports Hall :

In the sports hall that is connected to the Health, Culture and Sports Department of the University, there is seating capacity for 850 people with a total capacity of 2,000 people in the large hall, as well as three additional halls for gymnastics, basketball and multi-purposes. There are also 3 classrooms for 35 people and a fitness hall, billiards hall, a darkroom for photographic courses and the photographic club. In addition, there is one outdoor tennis court, one outdoor basketball court and one outdoor volleyball court for the students' use.

Marmara University School of Foreign Languages has become accredited by receiving internationally recognized "Pearson Assured Certificate".
