University of Salford

History

The University of Salford has a long history of connecting our students with industry. Our roots date back to the industrial revolution when we were initially established in 1896 as the Salford Royal Technical Institute. We’ve now been a leading university for 50 years, providing students with real-world experiences, preparing them for their career.

Education

We form strong partnerships with businesses and organisations from all sectors, working hand-in-hand with them to develop courses that are up-to-date and relevant to today’s challenges. We offer courses in a wide range of disciplines including business management, law, science, engineering, built environment, computing, nursing, physiotherapy, media, the arts and more.

We offer a variety of courses to suit your individual needs, including traditional 3-year undergraduate degrees or four-years with year placement, one-year master’s degrees and some two-year master’s degrees with a placement.

Research

Research at the University of Salford extends across schools, research centres and industry partners, in a truly unique way of collaborative learning.

The Research Excellence Framework assesses the quality of research in UK academic institutions and we have some excellent results, including:

  • 50% of our research is world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of its originality, significance and rigour.
  • 100% of our impact in social work and social policy is world-leading or internationally excellent.
  • 80% of our research outputs in electrical and electronic engineering, metallurgy and materials are world-leading or internationally excellent (REF exercise, 2014).

Career

We use our wide-ranging partnerships and staff networks to create opportunities for our students to gain the practical experience that will help them gain a competitive advantage in their chosen career.

Most of our courses offer work placements, as well as opportunities to take part in live briefs, where you’ll work in teams to deliver solutions for real clients.

Many of our undergraduate courses and some master’s courses offer a year-long industry placement.

We provide excellent careers support for students, from updating CV’s and LinkedIn, to interview techniques and career advice.
