History

UTC, with its legal status as “a scientific, cultural and professional public establishment” was created in 1972 by the French Government as its first ‘experimental University of Technology’.

Education

UTC stands as a model for its training schemes where engineering sciences, social sciences and humanities, economics and political science are blended harmoniously together to serve the overarching aim of training of tomorrow's engineers, scientists, managers, as innovative, humanist persons capable of controlling and mastering complex situations in today's information and communications intensive society.

Research

UTC’s research strategy calls for technological, partnership, pluridisciplinary, inter-cultural and, above all, conducive to innovative development. UTC is pursuing forms of technological research that answer societal questions generated by environmental issues that are becoming increasingly acute. The aim is to bring the university’s research policy closer to real-life socio-economic problems.

Career

Built on a pedagogy of autonomy and an interdisciplinary technological research oriented towards innovation, the UTC trains engineers, masters and doctors capable of understanding the interactions of technology with man and society.

Student services

The UTC students’ union (better known as the ‘BDE’, or Bureau Des Etudiants)

  • The BDE is the pivotal core of student associative life at UTC; the BDE federates all the student run associations, and acts as a relay with the world outside UTC and the University's Service units; it also manages the Students' Foyer (locally known as the Maison des Etudiants or MDE).
  • Associations are vital to the daily life of students, offering many services and activities and is indeed a real added value for personal or even professional projects.

Housing services

The UTC campus sites are located in various sectors of Compiegne and indeed have been integral parts of the City since the university began. 

Library services

The BUTC has subscribed to a new language database: Simulang

  • Simulang, the first simulator of professional situations in English in the form of serious games , is a new fun and innovative way to progress in English.
  • Six training modules dealing with situations of daily professional life, lasting 20 to 30 minutes, are currently available .

Campus life

To the extent that the student population represents 12% of all Compiegne inhabitants, they have radically changed the image of Compiegne. This has led to a dynamic, associative and cultural student life displaying a wide diversity. There are over 100 cultural and sports association registered with the Students’ Office (buzz-word BDE), some of which have extended their networks to have antennae in numerous other European countries. With a large number of cultural solidarity-intensive projects in town and its regional surrounds, UTC students take an active part contributing to Compiegne’s life style, thereby reinforcing the connection with the local authorities bringing “science to the heart” of the City.

Sports facilities

The University Sports and Physical Exercise Service (SUAPS) is tied to of the Technology and Social Sciences Department, the mission of which is to organize sport's activities in general on the campus and also teaching-training for certain sports (and students who sign up for the Sports elective).
