Overview
Opportunities in the Learning Skills course from Warnborough College
- Despite the huge amount of attention given to one’s personal education the majority of people don’t devote very much time at all to understanding how you can learn most effectively. The first thing to understand about learning is that the best way to learn is not the same for everyone. In other words we don’t all learn the same information in the same way. It’s simple.
- When a child doesn’t perform well at school, often the conventional response was to tell them they need to try hard, listen more, and apply more concentration perhaps – we have told children they just didn’t work hard enough in class. Although this may be true in some cases, this out-dated response to poor performance, whether made by a teacher, parent, or even students themselves, demonstrates serious misunderstandings of how learning takes place. This book sets out to correct such misunderstandings.
- If you first understand how different people learn in different ways, you can then set about identifying how specific individuals can learn best and tailor the learning experience to that individual.
- An enlightened approach to learning should take every aspect of the learning experience that is available to a person (what, where, when, how and why) into consideration. Any other approach to providing education may decrease the potential outcome that can be achieved.
- Any good program of learning must be diverse in every aspect of what is offered, in order to realise the full learning potential of those being taught.
