Overview
This American Language and Culture Program from University of Idaho promotes internationalization at the University of Idaho and encourages respect for linguistic and cultural diversity on the campus and in the community.
Earn undergraduate general education credits while satisfying the U of I language admissions requirement.
Completion of the ALCP advanced level fulfills TOEFL requirements for full undergraduate admission as well as for most graduate programs. ALCP students can also earn 9 undergraduate U of I general education credits through ALCP coursework.
On-campus Student Employment:
Once you’re in Moscow, you can apply for a job on campus and work for 20 hours a week during the academic year, up to 40 hours per week during university breaks-it is a great way to meet people and earn some money.
Students of all ages work in offices, labs, dining halls and the student recreation center. Our International Programs Office provides additional guidance on navigating the employment process for international students.

Credits
Students enrolled in the ALCP Advanced Level may, in consultation with their ALCP instructors and the University of Idaho course instructor, obtain approval to enroll in the University of Idaho as non-degree students for up to six credits per semester of academic courses.

General requirements
Before applying to the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP), a student must meet these minimum requirements:
- Be at least 17 years old
- Present evidence of financial support for all expenses while studying in ALCP (complete the Certificate of Financial Responsibility and submit bank documents as outlined below)
- Complete and sign Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR)
- Financial sponsor must sign CFR
- Submit original CFR
- Copy picture and information pages from Passport
- Submit copy of passport
Conditional Admission
Conditional admission is granted to students who meet our academic requirements, but not University of Idaho’s minimum English language requirements for full admission. Students who apply for Conditional Admission are able to begin a degree program upon successful completion of ALCP.Students can graduate from ALCP with up to 9 credits toward an undergraduate degree.
