Overview
If you are familiar with the physical properties of light, the theory of solar cells and the influence of temperature and shade on the performance of photovoltaic modules, in this course you will see – in real time – how these characteristics and factors affect the operation of a photovoltaic system.
What you'll learn
After conducting experiments in this Light, Photovoltaic Cells and Modules course at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), you will be able to:
- Characterize and explain the physical properties of both sunlight and artificial light;
- Build measurement setups and use them to characterize the performance of solar cells;
- Experience and explain the effect of temperature and shading on the performance of photovoltaic modules in real-life scenarios.
Programme Structure
This course includes 3 parts:- Light - You will investigate the physical properties of both sunlight and artificial light.
- Solar cells - You will build and calibrate two setups: 1) a current-voltage measurement setup and 2) an external quantum efficiency measurement setup. Through these setups you will measure the characteristics of solar cells, including electric performance and optical response.
- Photovoltaic modules - You will investigate the effect of temperature and shading on the performance of different photovoltaic module technologies
