The Medical negligence and health sector mediation course offered by University of Cape Town has been customised for health professionals but does not preclude successful delegates from practising as general commercial mediators in South Africa.
Programme Structure
The program focuses on:
- The course covers the groundwork enabling effective mediation in the healthcare sector and also in other preferred areas of practice or expertise.
- The new High Court Rule 41A, RAF matters as well as court-annexed mediation are covered.
- General and intercultural communication and negotiation skills will be improved – all essential leadership qualities in South Africa.
- Practical mediation skills will be acquired from experienced practitioners. This will enhance existing competencies as problem solvers in the work place and other fields.
- The potential for mediation as a flexible, innovative and creative means of conflict and dispute resolution tool will be demonstrated in the health core environment.
