Overview
Key facts
With a population of around 1.5 million, Gwangju Metro-politan City is the 6th largest city in South Korea. Gwangju has played a significant role in the history of Korea's democracy and human rights movements. In particular, the May 18 Democratic Movement, a popular uprising against the military dictatorship in the early 1980s, set an example for the world. Gwangju is a city known for its rich culture and art, with exhibitions and performances taking place throughout the year. This makes the city vibrant and colorful, and a great place to experience South Korean culture. The International Summer Session provided by Chonnam National University offers students the opportunity to earn up to 6 credits over a 4-week period, while experiencing Korean culture firsthand.
