The Alternative investments course offered at Queen Mary University of London is directed by Professor Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal (CCLS – Queen Mary University of London) and Professor Ettore Maria Lombardi (University of Florence).
Our programme will prepare you to:
- Differentiate and criticize as well as evaluate the role of venture capital, private equity, and SPACs.
- Understand the phases involved in an M&A transaction in SPACs and private equity.
- Define the pre-due diligence phases and due diligence phase in private equity acquisitions.
- Identify the key issues of inter-creditor agreements (ICAs) in private equity operations.
- Be able to comprehend to structure a SPAC and understand their legal framework
- Be able to connect private equity exits with SPACs.
- Evaluate the economic and legal issues pre- and post- IPO in some of these transactions.
Programme Structure
- The Executive Course on Alternative Investments is structured in three modules. The first module is devoted to explaining the main features of Venture Capital, a form of private equity financing focused on start-ups, early stage, and emerging companies. The second module is on Private Equity and its main operative structures such as leveraged buy-out (LBO), their financing techniques and the different exit strategies. Finally, the third module is on Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs). This module is completing the course and it sheds explores for the first time in Italy and in Europe the characteristics of this latest Wall Street trend that has emerged in 2020.
