Course content

Programme Structure

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss personal effectiveness in gathering measurements and information about a patient’s physical state of health.
  • Apply one or more named tools for monitoring changes in physical health status to demonstrate an awareness of the cues used to detect patient deterioration, including A-G assessment. This will include ACVPU and using the National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) and SBAR for a variety of scenarios as well as NICE and Royal College guidance.
  • Describe and manage a variety of patient deterioration scenarios safely and effectively.
  • Prioritise a workload and escalate in a safe manner.
  • explore understanding of individual responsibility and limitations in relation to monitoring the changing physical health status of a patient.
