Family interventions in Psychosis course at Middlesex University  content:

  • During the session, participants will be introduced to a range of common family–based interventions, assessing their role in promoting the wellbeing of service users and current evidence base.
Learning and teaching
  • Study mode: Synchronous online delivery via virtual classroom using one of the following web-based learning and teaching platforms (e.g. MS teams, Kaltura new row, Adobe Connect, Zoom).  
  • The content on the day will be delivered via a mixture of PowerPoint presentation, small group exercise and discussion, group feedback and recap/quiz.

Programme Structure

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:
  • Develop awareness of the available, up-to-date evidence on the impact of mental health diagnoses on service users, their family members/carers, and their relationships.
  • Understand the evidence base for family work and interventions when working with psychosis and schizoaffective disorders.
  • Introduction to key principles and practices from systemic family therapy, behavioural family treatment and family interventions frameworks relevant to working with service users, their families, social and professional networks.
