Overview
Key facts
The United States emerged from the Second World War as the world's dominant superpower and the country was transformed by stunning progress on all fronts. The economy boomed, suburbia blossomed, college became the norm for half the younger population, and social liberation movements swept away ancient barriers of racial and sexual discrimination. Yet the paradox at the heart of the 'American experiment' remained -a colony turned superpower, a land of immense wealth and productivity yet with a widening gulf between rich and poor, and a land of the free that has abetted inequality and racial injustice. University of Strathclyde's US History since 1945 will teach you more about this.
