Overview
Key facts
For several centuries mining was a mainstay of Scotland's economy. How did that come about and what were the living and working conditions of thousands of miners and their families? Who spoke up for them when those conditions became intolerable? Explore the origins of the mining industry and its rapid expansion in the 19th century, before examining the decline of mining in the 20th century. University of Strathclyde's Scotland's Scotland's Mining Heritage main focus will be on coal mining, but other types of mining will be included.
