What you will study

The aim of the Philosophy of Work in the Age of AI course offered by University of Sydney is to give students new perspectives on the world of ‘work’. These perspectives can be used as tools to think through ideas about the importance of work in the students’ personal life; the role of work for the society in which they live and the global world which we all inhabit.

By the end of this course, you should:

  • have gained an overall understanding of the key concepts in the philosophy of work, and their relation to other concepts such as labour and leisure
  • have gained insight into the history and anthropology of work as different types of work emerged
  • have read extracts from the key theorists both ancient and modern
  • be able to relate their ideas to our contemporary world and current issues
  • have discussed many of the ideas on work as they apply to the students' personal lives and work choices.
