History
Miyazaki University was founded in 1949 based up on the merger of Miyazaki Advanced Agriculture and Forestry School, Miyazaki Prefectural Normal School for Primary Education, and the Miyazaki Prefectural Advanced Technical School. Miyazaki Medical College was founded in 1974. Miyazaki University and Miyazaki Medical College, then, merged to form University of Miyazaki in October 2003.

Our institutional goal states that UOM will commit itself to the preparation of young individuals able to respond to the ever-changing demands of the 21st century by both inheriting and developing science and culture as the fruit of human wisdom, by exploring the profound truths of science, by preserving the natural environment that is the origin of all life, and by creating interdisciplinary programs in life science that will serve the welfare and prosperity of all humanity
Research
We promote cooperation in academic research with overseas universities, especially universities with existing agreements, and other research institutes. We coordinate the University of Miyazaki's (UOM) participation in researcher exchange, international collaboration in research, and international symposia.The University of Miyazaki research is focusing on topics such as technology, biology and environmental sciences.

Student services
The Center offers international students and researchers one-stop service, and can give advice and support on any difficulties being experienced such as learning Japanese, life in Japan and academic studies. We also provide an opportunity for exchange between international and Japanese students.
Housing services
University International Housing is located on Kibana campus and has three types of rooms. Kiyotake Dormitory is located on Kiyotake campus and has only for singles rooms. Kibana Dormitory is located on Kiyotake campus and has only rooms for singles. It's a brand new dormitory built in 2015. It is a sharehouse with a private bedroom. You'll be sharing Kitchen, shower, toilet, bath sink and washing machine between four students.
Library services
With a collection of 600,000 volumes, the library provides the necessary publications to support your learning and research. The library’s PC corner includes tables with power and Ethernet connections, computers for students' use inside the library, and more.
Medical services
The Health Care At the University’s Health Care and Security Center offers students medical services. Doctors, counselors, and nurses providing regular medical examinations, counseling, and health consultations.
Campus life
UOM is comprised of four faculties, and six graduate schools, with approximately 1,400 staff and 5,500 students, including approximately 100 international students from 16 countries. The school consists of two campus: Kibana campus and Kiyotake campus. Agriculture, engineering, and education faculties arelocate on Kibana campus while the medical faculty and the college hospital arelocated on Kiyotake campus. There are international students from America, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, France, India, Nepal, Philippine, Taiwan, and Zinbabwe
The University of Miyazaki is accredited by JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education).
