History
University of Kragujevac was founded in May 21, 1976. At that time, the University incorporated five faculties: Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Law, Natural Sciences & Mathematics, Medicine and College of Mechanical Engineering in Kraljevo along with two research institutes: Small Grains Research Institute in Kragujevac and Fruit Research Institute in Čačak.
Education
Today the University of Kragujevac is a modern education and research center embracing almost all major areas of teaching and research, with a student population of 20,000 and 1,200 academic staff.
Research
In addition to education, research is the second important mission of the University of Kragujevac, implemented through fundamental, integrated, interdisciplinary, developmental and applied research schemes.
Research projects are funded by the Republic of Serbia Government, international research programs, or in cooperation with companies and communities.Career
Center for Career Development and Student Counseling of the University of Kragujevac was established in 2007 with the aim of providing students and graduates with adequate information, counseling, trainings and support in realizing their career plans.

Housing services
The centralized system of admission to student accommodation is administered by the Students’ Center, which is organized as an institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
Being that student demand for housing in dormitories regularly exceeds the available capacities the admission policy is restrictive, based on an open competition limited to the students with the best average grade.
Library services
The Library was moved in the adapted basement space of the Self-management House of that time (the Rectorate was also there) at the end of 1978, with available space of 525m2 and 70 places for readers.
Sports facilities
The city's sporting life begun by introducing the gymnastics at the First Grammar School, and very soon after several sports clubs were founded. More than one hundred and thirty sports clubs cover twenty four kinds of sport (football, athletics, volleyball, handball, boxing, chess, wrestling, archery, American football), which indicates that various sports activities take place here.
The organization of diverse regional, national and international sports events has been entrusted to the city.
University of Kragujevac is a state, accredited university located in the central Serbian region. It comprises 12 faculties where students may pursue programs in almost all educational fields, while researchers can conduct their research in a number of research facilities at the university and faculty levels.
It has participated in a large number of international research, educational and mobility programs, either as coordinating or partner institution.
